CB Radio Nostalgia |
On the 2nd November 2006 Citizens Band Radio was 25 years old. We take a nostalgic look at the last 25 years of Thunderpole and CB Radio in the UK. Also in this section you will find links to the BBC article 'Over and out? Remember CB Radio?' and the Radio 4 documentary 'When CB Ruled The Waves'. Click Here. |
Mobile Communication Regulations |
As far as the law is concerned CB radios are not affected by the same regulations as mobile phones. We are not aware of anybody being prosecuted for using a CB radio whilst driving. The police themselves use 2 way radios, therefore cannot ban this activity. Please see the table from the Department for Transports website. Click Here. |

CB Radio Introduction |
CB Radio has been used as a cheap and simple means of communication between vehicles in the UK since the introduction of the legal 27 MHz frequency band in 1981.
CB has a lot to offer all types of enthusiasts. Out on the road there is still a spirit of community with people reporting the whereabouts of hold-ups and accidents, often allowing alternative routes to be taken long before you get snarled up in several miles of standing traffic.
Most CB Radios these days come with a minimum of 80 channels (40 UK and 40 European). All these channels can be used in the UK, but only the 40 channels designated for use in mainland Europe should be used in the rest of the EU. However, this point seems largely to be ignored. |
Deregulation of CB Radio |
Ofcom decided that from the 8th December 2006 CB Radio is legal for use in the UK without licence. Therefore you no longer require to buy a license to use Citizens Band Radio.
